Im Still Enjoying My Combat Classics Collection

Im an older guy and really enjoy the older black and white movies of my younger days. Ive had this collection about 2 years now and have watched them many times. The quality is very good and they are either war or war related. They play full screen on my old type TV. You would have to change the zoom (picture size format) to 4:3 ratio to see them as they were originally made on your newer widescreen digital TVs (easy to do with your remote control). But all these old movies were originally made to be played in a 4:3 format. These are a fine entertainment choice.

Verified Purchase

Very poor and faulty reproduction of movies.

The quality of the films is below standard. There are blackouts frequently--this occurring on nearly every film--there is permanent noise and static in 90% of the movies, especially those from the 30s and 40s. The volume level is lower than most films and you have to turn up your volume remote as high as it will go. All the films are cut off as soon as The End shows, even though it is abrupt and cancels out any Epilogue information that many historical films offer to their audiences. One of the films of the first three DVDs stopped about a third the way through and then just went black. In one of the early films, Spitfire, the noise was so loud and the volume of the voices so static, that Could only understand about 1/4 of what the actors were saying. And these were British actors with beautiful speech. I have never before had any problem trying to understand David Niven or Leslie Howard speak... I had to finally just stop the film halfway through. This is the cheapest collection of movies I have ever purchased. Because Walmart sold it, I expected a much higher quality of reproduction of these films. NOT SO! There was one positive about this 50 COMBAT movie collection. The choice of the movies was very good. The movies had a moral and spiritual value. Too bad, the company did not care one whit if the audience would be able to enjoy watching and listening to them...
