Replace 30 yr old chamberlainopener with this one.

Replaced this opener from an old 1980's Craftsman with dip switches and no photo-optics. I was able to reuse the T rail and just mount the motor/control unit. Had to add the optics and new push button switch and everything worked. I have a one piece wooden 2 car garage door and 1/2 horse power was plenty , important thing is to have balance door springs. I also was able to reuse the Universal wireless keyless pad. The instructions for the keypad was saying that the yellow button was a type 3 opener which didn't work, these were liftmaster 387LM instructions. I then downloaded the Chamberlain KLIK2U instructions and found the correct Type 4 and code #8 for yellow button openers worked. The code #8 was missing in the Liftmaster instruction which is why I read somewhere people were giving up on the 387LM and buying the 877LM keyless pad which was unnecessary because of old documentation. I plan to hook up a 828LM gateway in the future.

Super value

The Overhead Door 'Python' unit we had for about ten years fell apart, literally. The transmission was plastic and I probably could have bought parts and fixed it, but I was somewhat outraged at the cheap construction of the thing. The chain had jammed in the track, so much for single-piece tracks, and that caused the tranny failure--just a piece of crap. The other door has a Moore-O-Matic Ultra-Lift chain drive that has been working fine for over twenty years--with my wife's Acura and my Mercedes Homelink no less. Probably a security risk, but I unplug it when we go on vacation. So, after quite a bit of research I settled on the C205. This is the cheap Home Depot contractor grade unit that Chamberlain sells with pretty much no-frills. That is what I wanted, no frills, just a good, solid opener with a chain drive. My garage is a separate building (larger than some homes), so I didn't need the quiet of a belt drive. That said, the wife was blown away by how quiet the unit is! The install was slightly challenging--you get what you pay for, but I enjoyed the puzzle and now have a very solid, easy to maintain opener with a very advanced security system. Honestly, do you really need to access your garage door opener with your phone? Jeez. The price was ridiculous, I think I paid 120 bucks. If and when the Ultra-Lift dies I will no doubt replace it with a C205. Oh, I could afford Chamberlains top of the line unit, but why?

You get what you pay for

Purchase this garage door opener, good price but if you want the other items like key pad and extra remote go for the unit that they come with. Had to buy the extra remote and key pad so it brings back to the better openers price. Easy to install, and program. It's works fine it's a garage door opener.
