Stovetop - From Ambient **Cooking Directions on the Stove **1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil.* **2. Stir in rice.** **3. Cover. Reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes or until all water is absorbed. ***Cooking Measurement Chart **Rice: 1 cup; Water: 2 1/2 cups; Makes (Cups Cooked): 3 1/2 cups; Servings (3/4 Cup Cooked): 5 **Rice: 2 cups; Water: 5 cups; Makes (Cups Cooked): 7 cups; Servings (3/4 Cup Cooked): 9 **Rice: 3 cups; Water: 1 1/2 cups; Makes (Cups Cooked): 10 1/2 cups; Servings (3/4 Cup Cooked): 14 **** Add 1 tbsp. butter and 1 tsp. salt per cup of uncooked rice, if desired. **Microwave - From Ambient **Cooking Directions in the Microwave*** **1 In a 2 1/2 quart microwave-safe dish, combine 3 cups water and 1 cup brown rice. **2 Microwave uncovered on high for 10 minutes. Reduce power to 50%, microwave uncovered for 20 minutes. Allow rice to sit for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve. Do not add salt or butter/margarine to the rice until after the rice is cooked. *****It is recommended that only 1 cup rice be prepared in the microwave at a time. Microwave ovens vary. The Closest To Restaurant Quality Brown Rice
Brown rice can be tricky to get right, since it turns out under-cooked if you're not careful. I have a great little rice cooker. This rice from my home state, is the closest I've come to the brown rice from Chinese restaurants which I prefer. I add a bit more water than the directions call for, and this helps it turn out just right!
