So far so good

I had been experiencing intermittent Internet in the last few months and was beginning to suspect my 6141 was acting up since my neighbors didn't have the same number of issues that I was experiencing. The Cox cable chat technician told me Modems are only good for about 1 year which I DO NOT agree with but I figured 3 years was right around the time for me to look for an upgrade. Since my old model is still for sale, I decided to go up a model even though I don't subscribe to an ultra-fast internet plan and so far the speedtest indicates that my connection speed has improved *slightly* (14.5 up to 15.85) but I expect the difference with this higher end model is a more consistent speed during the busy neighborhood times. Provisioning was quick and done over chat with the old modem still attached. So far I'm happy. Note that the case for this modem is roughly 30% thicker than the 6141. I'm not sure if this means there's more hardware inside but I hope it solves all of my connectivity issues as well as being reliable enough to last at least 3 years.

Nice replacement from my previous modem

My internet provider bill jumped up once again. After doing a lot of research I finally bit the bullet and replaced my internet provider modem (which also had phone service) with this Arris SB6183. Since I decided to port my number and get rid of the phone service I had, this modem fit the bill as it's only for internet. For those of you looking to replace your modem to avoid the monthly fee they also have a different model Arris built for both internet and phone service. It set up very easily with my iMac. I did not have to contact my internet provider in order to get it up and running. Knowing your mac number is key. I've been meaning to do this since 4 bill increases ago:). It feels so liberating to buy a modem which performs flawlessly and not have to pay 10.00 a month just to use my service. One thing is the lights are quite bright. But that's no reason to rate it less. If you really wanted to, I saw where you can go into the settings and turn them off but that would seem strange to me:) Very happy with my purchase. So far, so good.
