It does not look cheap or clunky. I purchased this item as a soft flexible alternative to a metal kennel. Metal kennels are ugly and not space practical. It is a portable bed. I would not consider it a playpen. I live in a second floor apartment with a balcony. I wanted to give my 13lb cat an opportunity to get sun and fresh air. I do not have to worry about him jumping off the balcony inside this item. We can relax together! I do not have a large balcony. It fits perfect. The tent is good for cats or toy dogs. My cat can stand inside the tent without hunching over. He can sprawl out when laying down. The eliptical shape and placement of the ventilation allows direct sun to enter the lounging area.
