A must-read!

Rembrandt Stone is the kind of hardcore detective that you want on your case and Cast the First Stone is the kind of edgy story that will keep you up all night reading about him. This new collaborative project between authors Susan May Warren, James L. Rubart, and David Warren is like a cross between Blue Bloods and Quantum Leap. Stone has the heart of the Reagan family while his story channels the time-travel elements of Sams leaps through time. I love the way that theyve set the stage for a heart-rending series of cold cases as Stone leaps. Maybe with a male lead and two male authors on the team, I should have expected more masculine thoughts and actions, but I didnt, and that threw me a bit at times. Some of those thoughts definitely added an adult label to this book for me, although its not graphic or inappropriate in any way even the crime scenes. It does come with a heavy dose of the trademark Warren writing style, though, and maybe thats because theres double the Warrens on the creative team; but youll definitely find hunky heroes, quoteable lines, and cliffhanger moments in Cast the First Stone. In fact, the book ends with just such a moment to the extent that I yelled when I swiped to the last page and realized Id reached the end in the midst of a critical scene for Stone. My family was quite concerned until they realized I was just in angst for a fictional character again but if you read Cast the First Stone, youll be a believer and youll find yourself suffering from a Warren cliffhanger, too. And thats exactly why you should read Cast the First Stone: because its the kind of book that makes you cheer for the characters, cry along with them, and think about them long after turning that last drama-filled page. I received a free copy of this book from the authors. All opinions are my own.

Intriguing Time Travel Detective Story

I don't think my review can do justice to Cast the First Stone. Its one of the most intriguing books I've read in a very long time, and Id go so far as to say its brilliant. I'm not a time travel aficionado, so I worried I wouldn't actually like the book very much. But, I was so wrong. I was hooked from the first sentence. Its the regrets that keep me awake. Doesn't that make you want to know what regrets the hero has? Rembrandt Stone is haunted by the cases he couldn't solve as a detective, and the regrets he has about things he did that hurt his wife, Eve, before they married. He carries a lot of guilt, and wishes he could somehow make things right. Something we can probably all identify with. He gets a chance to change the outcome of one particular case that fills his dreams, but changing history has consequences. You'll like Rembrandt. He may be flawed, but you know he loves his wife and little girl, and you know he did all he could to help people when he was on the force. I think he's someone you can identify with, as is Eve. She's solid, strong, and has an amazing love for Rembrandt. You'll like her, a lot. Cast the First Stone has humor, suspense, and tragedy. When you start to read it, make sure you have a lot of time because you're not going to want to put it down once you start. I can hardly wait for book two to see what happens next.

A must-read time-travel crime thriller!

"I guess I just think that everything happens for a reason. And going back to change it would mean we'd be a lesser person for the lack of the lesson." Wow, what a stunning first novel in a series that promises mind-bending time-travel journeys with intriguing cold cases! Fans of James Rubart and Susan May Warren will see their imprint and trademark in the story with its intricate, fascinating plot that brings the readers into a speculative world and the passionate devotion and romance between Rem and Eve. But the compelling and gripping writing style is all David Warren and I am a fan! I'm so glad that the six books in the series will release right after the other, because I totally need to know how Rem's path turns out. Rem is a battle-worn, broken, hurting retired detective who's just trying to write another best seller while loving his family and trying to fight the demons and regrets that haunt him. He's raw and real, honest and straight to the point. His first person present tense voice will grab your heart and burrow deep in your soul as you feel his anguish, torment, elation, and triumph. His tireless drive to bring justice is incredibly admirable and makes him a swoony hero. Eve has a third person voice in the past and she's a great match for Rem - practical, focused, but also tender and compassionate. Rem's race against the clock in solving the case in 1997 is adrenaline-filled and his emotional maturation from his visit to the past is powerful. The ending is a cliff-hanger....and I'm counting down the days until I can get my hands on the second book. If you love crime-suspense thriller and/or time travel, you will absolutely adore this book. I received a copy from the publisher and also via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.
