* The circuit of the R448 Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) provides closed loop control of the alternator output voltage by regulating the exciter field current. The voltage of the primary winding is proportional to the alternator voltage (characteristic shunt) and the voltage of the secondary winding is proportional to the stator current (composite characteristic: boost effect). It is supplied by two auxiliary windings of the voltage equalization circuit. The supply voltage is rectified and filtered before being used by the AVR monitoring transistor. Under PMG excitation, the permanent magnet generator (PMG) added to the alternator provides the AVR with a voltage of the main alternator winding.
