Born from the "Brass City", Waterbury in Connecticut, U.S.A.; Timex's humble beginnings started in 1854 by the Waterbury Clock Company which sells inexpensive and highly reliable clocks to working-class Americans. Its sister company, Waterbury Watch Company introduced the world's first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch, a bestseller not only in the United States but in Europe as well. A partnership with Robert Ingersoll's "Ingersoll Watch Company" bore immense success with the release of the "Yankee" pocket watch which only cost $1 by 1896. The first proper Timex watch appeared by 1950 and with the help of clever advertising and manufacturing practices, became known as the "watch that takes a licking and keeps on ticking". The early 60's saw one in every three watches sold were from Timex and led the company to change its name by 1969 to the Timex Corporation which up to this day, still keeps on ticking with their innovative designs, features and ever affordable pricing.
