Beware of the heavy, unusual flavor of this spice

I have used several brands of bay leaves through my 88 years including "Spice Island" . This actually replaced a jar of Spice Island Bay Dried Leaves. The minute I removed the lid, I could tell the aroma was not what I have been accustomed to for years. However I was cooking a large pot of dried beans and needed the spice. I used (1) bay leaf.* in the pot of beans. The leaf looked really green as tough it had not been dried...and unfortunately the Spice Island Bay Leaf flavored the beans with a very strange, heavy taste. None of my family would eat the beans,,,what a waste of time and money. After reading the fine print on the Spice Island jar, I assume I am at fault! Using a magnifying glass, I see the FINE PRINT READS " tip - use 1/3 leaf due to high flavor". I am french and have used bay leaves in cooking for 80 years of my life, so I really do know the aroma of properly dried bay leaves. This CajunGma has used many great Spice Island products over the years but I will never use this one again. I am very disappointed. So beware...be sure to read the fine print.
