C-47A Skytrain The Argonia Model

The Douglas C-47 Skytrain is an aircraft made for paratroop flights. The C-47 aircraft made its name during the Operation Neptune as well as the D-Day and D+1 operations. Displayed in the Airborne Museum of Sainte Mere Eglise is the C-47 Argonia. This aircraft once proudly served the 92nd Squadron of the US Army Air Force 439th Transportation Group. This C-47, with a serial number of 42-100825, was a plane that saw quite a lot of battles. Among them, the most note-worthy would perhaps be event that gave The Argonia its name. It was on June 1944 when the aircraft was used for the deployment of the Parachute Infantry regiment of the division. The aircraft was then piloted by the renowned Colonel Robert F. Sink - after whom the plane was named after. Another milestone of this C-47 plane was when it parachuted Bob Murphy (esteemed member of the Airborne Division) and Yves Tariel (the man who was eventually responsible for the plane's restoration and display in the Museum).
