In case you've been living under a rock for the last 40 years, the Rolling Stones are what are commonly referred to as the World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band. Shine A Light the soundtrack to the Martin Scorsese film of the same title does nothing to "shatter," that image.

Over the course of some 18 live songs, from the recent riff-monster, "She Was Hot," to select vintage tracks like "Paint It Black" and "I'm Free," the Stones shine a light on their back catalog, breathing new vitality into their old songs, many of which made their first impressions 30 years ago.

Concentrating heavily on their '70s repertoire, a time when the group was at the height of its super-powers, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts, accompanied by their trusted side men and woman, blaze though with what would appear to be boundless energy some of their biggest hits.

The twangy "Tumblin' Dice" and "Faraway Eyes," the soulful romp "Just My Imagination," the bawdy "Some Girls," and the rough and tumble "All Down The Line" all get an airing as do the mega-hit signature tunes with the killer riffs: "(I Canï¾’t Get No) Satisfaction," "Brown Sugar" and "Start Me Up." The baroque "As Tears Go By" and a later tune by Keith provide the set's only acoustic breathers.

Joining the Stones on their triumphant engagement -- a benefit for the Clinton Foundation as well as for the purpose of preserving the performance for all time by master director Scorsese -- were Jack White of the White Stripes, vocalist Christina Aguilera and blues player Buddy Guy.

White duets with Jagger for a suitably rootsy "Loving Cup" on which he also trades some licks with Richards. Aguilera does Jagger the honor of sharing the mic with him on an appropriately grungy version of "Live With Me" and bluesman Buddy Guy, well, frankly he threatens to steal the show with the showdown he and Jagger perform on the Muddy Waters tune, "Champagne And Reefer." Perhaps Mr. Scorsese will consider him for the subject of his next music documentary!!

One of the film's most gratifying moments (for Keith fans, that is), is when Richards and Wood share center stage for a couple of songs. Their acoustic/pedal steel performance of "You Got The Silver" is also one of the soundtrack's surprise highlights, as is the title song that closes out the show. Keith also leads the band in a version of "Connection." But before the show is through, the band whips out killer versions of two of its biggest hits ever: the high energy "Brown Sugar," and their early '60s breatkthrough hit, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." Put it this way: by the end of this performance, let's just say that "Satisfaction" has been achieved.
