This medication is used & nbsp; to treat vaginal yeast infections. Clotrimazole reduces vaginal burning, itching, and discharge that may occur with this condition. This medication is an azole antifungal. It works by stopping the growth of yeast (fungus) that causes the infection. It usually takes 7 days for fungal infections to improve. Apply clotrimazole to the infected area 2 or 3 times a day for at least 2 weeks. The most common side effect of clotrimazole is irritation in the area where you apply the treatment. Clotrimazole is also known by the brand name Canesten. This medicine is for use in the vagina. It may also be applied to the external areas of the skin around the vagina to decrease itching and discomfort. Clotrimazole works by killing the yeast that causes the fungal infection. It usually treats thrush within 7 days but it's best to treat the infection for at least 2 weeks to stop it from coming back.
