A worthy shoe!

I am a woman, 5'8", 145, run 35-40 miles a week in the winter on dirt roads and some pavement, and 30-45 miles per week in the spring/summer/fall on trails. Whenever I go to a shoe store, I gravitate to the colors of men's shoes. The shoe expert there always measures my foot, size 10.5-11, tells me I am a normal width in a women's shoe, and I try on a shoe and it feels a little too snug. I've been running in the Nike Wildhorse/Pegasus trail for a long time. I finally tried the Escalante 2.0 men's shoe this winter and fell in love. I put about 300 miles on those (was impressed with their life given reviews I had read about Altra). I bought the men's Lone Peak 4.5 a month ago and have enjoyed each of the 125 miles I have on them. Don't usually write reviews, but decided to just because I would've gone this route long ago had I read about someone else in a similar position!

Overall good shoe but lacked durability

This is a great trail shoe, a bit soft but still I liked it. Before even 100 miles of trail running the outsole at the toe started peeling away and the upper started tearing a bit. For the price point of these shoes I would expect better durability but they are definitely comfortable and the outsole grip is amazing. I did return them under Altra's warranty guarantee and got a new pair delivered pretty easily so their customer service and return policy was great.

Delaminates

Have owned several previous versions o the Lone Peak and loved them. Each pair had over 500 hard trail miles from long distance trail runs to multi day backpacking trips in the Sierras. The 4.5's delaminated at the toe after a single 19 mile day hike in preparation for the JMT. Returned those and the second pair did the exact same thing after a 2 day 30 mile backpacking trip. I love the shoe but I can't afford for my only mode of transportation to fail on me so far into the backcountry.
