Derwent Lightfast Coloured Pencils, Set of 12

I'm normally a Prismacolor user but these Derwent Pencils are definitely impressive! I'd say they're about on par with Prisma, perhaps better. I really like the pigment and creamy application of these pencils. I find that they do a terrific job with blending. I think the set of 12 has a great array of colors, especially for portraits. I will definitely be purchasing the larger set in the future.

My favorite pencils in the world!

I am a photo realistic animal portraiture artist. I have worked with every employee available in the United States that claims to be lightfast and nothing compares to the Derwent Lightfast pencils. The color range is phenomenal and they have a firm yet smooth creamy feel when you work with them. I would absolutely recommend these to any colored pencil artist.

Not as expected ruined a piece I was completing

I was led to believe these would not reactivate once dry. I used them on a small piece as a test thank goodness as they were a runny mess. I let the piece dry 3 days and then coated it with matte medium and presto smears of colors ruined everything. So don't buy these unless you are not planning on additional layers of anything near them.

2.22.23 Update: We are sorry to hear the results you are receiving with Inktense. When the product was first developed, the pencils were tested by a panel of independent artists, who confirmed the claim of the fully dispersed washouts being permanent when dry. To create this permanent wash with the pencils , all pigment from the colouring or the light swatch of colour used on your mixing palette, must be dispersed, allowing no undispersed pigment to remain. Once this is fully washed out and then dry, the light wash product will be permanent to use water or other colours over the top.
