Somewhere With God, Studies in being led by His Spirit, by Bible teacher and author Nita Berquist, is full of rich teaching from the word of God. The book is a guide of discovery through many scriptures and tackles difficult problems, like the following:
Faith and resting are like twins, they grow up together, embracing and arguing, and then embracing again. Sometimes their struggle seems insurmountable, but in the end, each is looking to once again join hands with the other. Our walk with God is like that. We often exercise our faith with courage and determination. Then we struggle, because resting at times feels like laziness, disobedience, or even a lack of compassion. At those times, the message of rest seems counterproductive. It sounds like a betrayal of what is needed. Taking action, any action, feels like the right course. Yet, unless we have heard from the Lord, our minds may seduce us into believing that more work will produce the desired result. The devil may get his licks in too, for he urges Christians to estimate their worth by how much work they do. However, thwarting the devil's kingdom does not always involve active resistance against him, but it always means trusting and resting in God.
Jesus Christ did the work God gave Him to do, and He also rested in His Father's love. Still, in the garden He prayed, %u201CNot my will, but yours be done. The struggle between the flesh and the Spirit seemed insurmountable at that time, but then Jesus found His Father to be faithful. So Jesus trusted Him, that is, He rested in God's leading and fulfilled His work.
Christians should also allow the twins of faith and rest to live at harmony in their lives. Somewhere with God is a study about a real place of faith and rest. The Lord purposes to take us there, though in life, we may suffer personal struggles en route. Nevertheless, all who follow on to know the Lord will arrive safely. We are led when we choose to follow.
God Knows Where He is Going, and God leads ordinary believers whether they are fully aware of Him or not. How does He lead men and what is the cost of following Him? These are some of the questions answered in this study. Somewhere With God, looks at the special kind of courage it takes to follow someone you cannot see, who keeps pointing to someone else up ahead, and takes you somewhere you've never been. This is what it is like when you follow Jesus Christ. Every step you take with Him is worth it, though you have not walked that way before.
And He led them forth by the right way(Psalm 107:7).
Author and Christian minister Nita Berquist has over forty years of Biblical ministry experience and lives in Kent, Washington. She taught in a local Bible college in Alaska for almost ten years, had a daily Christian radio broadcast for several years, taught in Alaskan towns and villages, and then took the message of the gospel across the United States for the next thirty years. Today, Nita spends most of her time writing Biblical studies and they are being used to help train Christian disciples both in the USA and abroad.
