Introduced by the USDA in Beltsville in the 1940s. Fordhook 242 is by far the best lima bean for Northern climates coastal conditions or cool foggy nights. They are ready for use almost a week earlier than most bush limas.
Fordhook 242 has dense foliage reaching 16\-24\". Pods are thick meaty and contain 3-5 lima beans. Known for its almost nutty flavor. Nothing beats a steamy bowl of lima beans with a pat of butter!
