This type of pipe is used in Class IIA, IIB, and IIC vent systems to vent gas appliances like boilers, water heaters, furnaces and other Category II or IV gas-burning appliances. Since the combusted gas that is produced is so much cooler than that from a stove or fireplace, multiple applications can be vented through one system.
