The third and final volume of the excellent MISSING LINKS series of Monkees rarities focuses as much on oddities as on studio outtakes or alternate versions. Opening with the brief TV version of "Theme From The Monkees," the CD also includes the band's Kellogg's cereal jingle, two versions of the show's "We'll be back in a minute" commercial break, and, perhaps most bizarre, the Monkees TV theme dubbed into Italian.
It's not just ephemera, though; MISSING LINKS 3 has some of the best and most surprising rarities of the series. Four of Michael Nesmith's many unused compositions from the late '60s are included, with an early version of his solo ballad "Propinquity" the standout. Peter Tork's legendary "Tear the Top Right Off My Head" makes its first non-bootleg appearance, and Davy Jones essays the bossa nova standard "How Insensitive" with surprising grace. A satisfying collection of intriguing rarities.
