This album gets its title from the fact that it was recorded entirely inside of a specially outfitted 1965 Rambler. Ben Vaughn is actually a longtime Rambler fan--his song "El Rambler Dorado" was on his BLOWS YOUR MIND album in 1988. While there is an element of overt showmanship in this project, it still works on a musical level. That's because at their core, these are all great songs, with appropriate accompaniment and honest vocals.
If the automotive stunt attracts some attention for this worthy artist, then that's a good thing indeed. RAMBLER 65 is very much in the same spirit and possesses the same sonic richness as Vaughn's home-recorded MONO USA and INSTRUMENTAL STYLINGS albums. The set opens with "7 Days Without Love," which should be a hit for someone, someday. Nine other songs are all equally engaging.
