I thought I could take the insert out so it would not be so bulky, which is what I intended to do, as I do not need all of those slots, only a few. It does not detach. However, I was surprised to see that the phone attaches by magnets built into the (rubber) ring around the phone. This is VERY useful. When I am in the house I easily detach it to use and charge and only need to put it in the wallet when I have it in my purse, as not to get scratched and keep a few things in the slots. Very nice product and great color (rose gold). Good quality item.
