The good and the bad

I researched butane stoves heavily before deciding on this one. There are dozens of them on the market. Most look identical, just different names and colors. Most are functional, but cheaply made. I wanted a better quality stove from either Japan or Korea where there are regulations and codes that the stoves have to meet. The Iwatani Fore Winds is very solidly built. It is just what it says it is: rugged. Operation is simple, just put the gas canister in, press it forward to engage the magnet, and light the burner. The amount of heat this stove puts out is incredible. A light wind doesn't phase it, it just keeps burning. The performance is excellent. Now the bad. On page 9 of the owner's manual it states: "Cautions regarding time-related deterioration of this product. Rubber parts are used in the gas connection opening of this product. Regardless of frequency of use, rubber parts deteriorate over time. Please consider replacing this product 10 years after manufacture. The manufacture date is listed on the rating plate." Today is 10-26-2024. The stove I received today is dated 11-2-2019. I'm dismayed that the product description says nothing of the above caution regarding replacing the stove after 10 years. Walmart needs to be aware of that. The product was shipped from Iwatani. They sent a customer a stove that's already 5 years old, or half of the life span stated in the manual. They need to explain this, and I think they should make amends by agreeing to replace the rubber parts in 5 years, so the buyer has the full service life of the stove. I really like this stove, but I'm on the fence over whether or not I'll keep it now.
