Deciding on what elastomer for your application can be difficult Choose Viton fluoroelastomer when you want an O-ring that’s compressible like Kalrez but will stand up to low temperatures. Viton “O” Rings by Sterling Seal & Supply resist boric and citric acids, ketones, hydrocarbons, and animal and vegetable oils. Temperature range is -10° to 400° F Viton / FKM compounds are widely used in chemical, automotive, aerospace and industrial applications. These compounds offer excellent chemical and temperature resistance Excellent resistance to acids, fuels, mineral and vegetable oils and greases, aliphatic, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, non-flammable hydraulic fluids (HFD) and many organic solvents and chemicals Low swelling in ASTM oil No 1, and IRM 902 and IRM 903. Excellent resistance to aging and ozone - Low gas permeability, low compression set. VITON provides excellent resistance to a wide variety of chemicals, weather and compression set requirements. The relatively high level of fluorine in VITON allows for exceptional resistance to chemical attack, but with limited low temperature capabilities Intermittent exposure to +600F can be tolerated for brief periods of time When installed, seals must resist taking a set from compression, when a seal takes a set, it no longer exerts force on the mating surfaces, resulting in leakage. A compound with low compression set, like our Brown 75-durometer fluorocarbon compound, better maintains its elastomeric properties and original thickness, preserving seal integrity. These seals provide excellent resistance to compression set at higher temperatures.
