Platycodon Grandiflorus, usually referred to as Balloon Flower, is a perennial flower native to parts of Asia. Gardeners around the world value the plant for its long-lasting purple to blue, white, or rose flowers that form from balloon-shaped flower buds, hence the plant's common name. Although Platycodon Grandiflorus takes some care to establish from flower seed, it is quite easy to maintain once planted successfully. We now offer balloon flower in blue, rose, and white which are all grown easily from flower seed. Easy germination. Start indoors 4 - 6 weeks prior to last spring frost. Sow seed in container on good seed starting. Do not cover seeds as light is best for germination. Moisten mix and keep moist until germination begins. Place container in a location at 70F. Germination should begin in 6 - 10 and be done in 3 to 4 weeks. You may also sow Balloon Flower seeds directly in the garden once the soil has warmed to a workable temperature in spring. Full sun and average soil are best for balloon flower, although it will tolerate partial shade in warmer areas.
