Durable, open-ended toy

We've had 3 of these (2 green, 1 red), purchased in 2 different cities several months apart, for over a year. They are going strong, with regular, almost daily play by our 8 kids ages 2-16, who are not overly gentle with them! I don't know how some people are having them break after a couple of days. Maybe there was a faulty batch?
