Motorola Talkabout T801 Two-Way Radios, 2 Pack, Black/Green

We received these Motorola T801 Talkabouts just in time for a short 3-day 4th of July weekend camping trip—our first camping trip of the season. We were interested in using these for our family of 4 when we were split up doing separate activities because our cell phones don't always work in the area we often camp during the summer and autumn months. With 2 young teenagers (13 & 14) eager to explore without parents these gave us the confidence to give them more independence while not worrying about their safety and ability to get in touch with us in case of emergency. Ie: bear encounter, hiking injury, in trouble in kayaks out of our view on the lake etc… We found them easy to use right out of the box and my teen daughter got the app downloaded on our phones so we could share where we were to find each other while meeting back up outside of our camp, or to simply find them if they got lost in the woods (thankfully that didn't happen). We especially loved the kids having one of these with them on their kayaking trips while exploring the lake in case they crept out of our site while we fished from shore instead of trying to use cell phones on the lake. It made it easy for us to tell them “you're too far out, come in a little closer” I think we'll get many years of use out of these as they are very durable. The weight feels good in your hand, they have good ergonomics as far as ease of use in the handling of the push to talk button, and an added bonus we didn't realize they had at first is a flashlight on the top that also came in super handy when walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I would definitely recommend these to family campers but could also see so many other uses for these like for people who live in rural areas, or day hikes, or any other activity in the woods or wilderness. These are great walkie talkies! I've used these a city block away with no problems. We live near a school with a amazing playground. I take the kids there quite a bit. I will throw one of these in the wagon and my wife will call us back when dinner/lunch is ready. I also use them on improvised camping trips in the back yard as well. They are a great design and the rechargeable batteries have a great lifespan and are replaceable. These also have pocket clips. I normally strap then on things because they have a really good mounting loop on them. They are built very sturdy. I can't wait to try these out fishing.
