Already had a 3-pircr set plus small bowls of similar material. Was using so much, after over 10 years, that they were getting marred and I also liked the idea of lids rather than using Saran Wrap. Used for making desserts, warming food in the microwave.

Super lightweight, not high quality
I thought these would be thick and hefty ("substantial"). They are NOT. They are one notch up from the plastic nesting bowls that places like Walmart have been selling for decades at a price point of around $10 to $15. These bowls are super lightweight and look cheap and flimsy. I returned them. I am still on the hunt for quality melamine bowls.
