Sterling Seal & Supply Style 9000 stainless steel spiral wound gaskets with flexible graphite filler have proven to be reliable in many applications, and allow lower clamping forces than most solid gaskets. The necessity for a gasket to have the ability to recover cannot be over emphasized. The effects of pressure and temperature fluctuations, the temperature differential across the flange face, together with bolt stress relaxation and creep, demand a gasket with adequate flexibility and recovery to maintain a seal even under these varying service conditions. Spiral Wound Gasket is the precision engineered solution to such problems, meeting the most exacting conditions of both temperature and pressure in flanged joints and similar assemblies and against virtually every known corrosive and toxic media. They are used where gaskets with adequate residual stress (stress retention),flexibility and recovery are needed. Spiral wound gaskets are made of a preformed metallic strip and a soft filler material, wound together under pressure, and optionally with an inner and/or outer guide ring. The metal strip holds the filler, resulting in excellent mechanical resistance, resilience and recovery. A v-shaped crown centered in the metal strip acts as a spring, giving gaskets greater resiliency under varying conditions. An optional centering ring accurately locates the gasket on the flange face, provides additional radial strength, and acts as a compression limiter. These gaskets are durable, easy to install and easy to remove. Resiliency and strength make spiral wound gaskets an ideal choice under a variety of conditions and applications.
