Jury is still out on this one
Unit came installed on my new Grand Design Transcend. First trip out was to a park with hook ups so ran on electric. No problems at all. Next trip out had no hook ups so instead of running off the generator ran it on gas. Cycled on and off a couple times before it blew the thermal cut-off. Took the cut-off out, and ran on electric, and the generator, the rest of the weekend so had hot water, but seriously, first use on gas and it blows. Clearly a design problem with either where the cut-off is located or the door doesn't vent enough. Oh, and that little nylon cap on the drain, if I can find them I'm going to get a handful as spares. Can't imagine that's going to last very long. Why wouldn't you use a metal cap?
unreliable water heater
This model was found in our 2021 Winnebago 2108TB built in Jan. 2021 and purchased by me a month later. Works OK on electric, but on gas it goes off and on randomly before water is heated. When burning the flame "roars" at times which is apparently not normal (per YouTube videos of previous, similar models. Dometic's web site is of little assistance in troubleshooting). On previous models there was an "air shutter" you could adjust to fix this easily, but that is not present on this model. I replaced the circuit board with USA-made version (as other users pointed to that as the main issue normally) and it evened out a little during use but still troublesome when using gas. Can usually coax it to heat water though (when dry-docking without access to electric option.) It burned out the thermal fuse once before I replaced the board. So replaced that as well. This is under 2 months old as I write this, and has been the largest problem we've had with the new trailer. The manual has almost no troubleshooting help beyond the most basic steps. RV Dealers are of course a terrible option at this time so I do most repairs myself. Awaiting YouTube geniuses to find a solution since Dometic doesn't seem to have one. If they reply here I will be pleased but totally surprised.
What were they thinking
New RV with this unit. Can't even get spare plugs for it. And the isn't a plug, it is a nylon cap that if overtightened will crack on you. There are no parts available on the market for this unit so hope it doesn't break on you.
