A Happy Ending After Enduring Sadness and Troubles

This won the Caldecott Medal for it's beautiful illustrations. There are not a lot of words. Evan the fox and his much- loved little dog spend most of their days in the garden and all of their days together. But as adults will guess from the title, their days together are numbered. After the sadness and anger Evan recovers and the young reader may have learned something about being human from a gardening fox.

Great illustration of grief to kids

I am an undergraduate who is majoring in Psychology and I thought this book is a great way to introduce depression and coping with a loss for children. This book portrayed the stages of grief that a child could benefit knowing. I enjoyed the illustrations and the story line because it shows that people go through difficult times, however with time, they will get through it. This is a great message for children to understand as they grow up.
