In colonial America, the pickle patch was an important part of life. Pickles were critical to America's pioneers because, under frontier conditions, pickles were the only zesty, juicy, green, succulent food available for many months of the year. Homemakers were expected to "put down" some pickles in stone crocks, and to "put up" some pickles and pickle relishes in glass jars.

Boston Spice Corned Beef:

• Place 2.5lb to 5lb piece of corned beef in a pot and added enough cold water to cover the meat by about 1 inch. Add 1/4 cup of Boston Spice's "The Yankee Pickler" to the pot. Bring the water to a boil. Once it starts to boil, reduce the heat to a low simmer. Cover the pot and cook for about 3 to 4 hours or until the meat is fork tender.  If your corned beef is bigger, add a little more "The Yankee Pickler" and cook longer. This also works great in your slow cooker. Cook on high for about 3 to 5 hours. If your corned beef is bigger, add a little more "The Yankee Pickler" and cook longer.
