Su cronista es el científico mexicano Gerardo Herrera Corral, colaborador del Centro Europeo de Investigaciones Nucleares, donde se investiga el origen de la materia.
 
La historia aquí contada es, por supuesto, nuestra propia historia, una que empieza hace 13,800 millones de años con un fugaz destello y termina con un espejo -la conciencia humana-, en el cual el universo se observa a sí mismo y se descubre como un misterio espectacular.
 
Gerardo Herrera Corral, quien desde 1994 colabora en el experimento ALICE, del Centro Europeo de Investigaciones Nucleares, cuyo objetivo es recrear la materia que surgió instantes después del Big Bang, nos propone un viaje en reversa, un camino de causas y efectos que se detiene en momentos importantes del desarrollo cósmico, y avanza hacia el pasado, buscando el germen de cada estación en la siguiente.
 
Así, iremos de la conciencia a la vida; de ahí al carbono y su generosa geometría; luego al corazón de las estrellas, que deben morir para que lo demás exista; después visitaremos el plasma primordial del que surgieron los átomos ligeros y sus componentes elementales, y, antes de nuestra última parada -la Gran Explosión-, nos detendremos en la inflación cósmica, el momento decisivo entre el ser y la nada.

Science is the ship and the astrolabe that allows us to make this journey to the beginning and discover the subtle symphony of hazards that culminates in the contact of one neuron with another. The story of all things and all of us is the greatest story ever told.
 
This book is the general history of all things: stars, gravity, huge atoms, light, time, the ubiquitous Higgs, and the minute variety of life.
 
Its chronicler is the Mexican scientist Gerardo Herrera Corral, a collaborator of the European Center for Nuclear Research, where the origin of matter is investigated.
 
The story told here is, of course, our own story, one that begins 13.8 billion years ago with a fleeting flash and ends with a mirror - human consciousness - in which the universe observes itself and discovers itself as a spectacular mystery.
 
Gerardo Herrera Corral, who since 1994 has collaborated in the ALICE experiment, at the European Center for Nuclear Research, whose objective is to recreate the matter that arose moments after the Big Bang, proposes a reverse journey, a path of causes and effects that stops in important moments of cosmic development, and moves into the past, seeking the seed of each season in the next.
 
Thus, we will go from consciousness to life; hence the carbon and its generous geometry; then to the heart of the stars, which must die for the rest to exist; then we will visit the primordial plasma from which the light atoms and their elemental components arose, and, before our last stop -the Big Bang-, we will stop at cosmic inflation, the decisive moment between being and nothing.
