This Works! Adjust to Match Your Plant's Needs!

I love these! Now i don't have to worry about watering my plants! Please remember - this system is based on YOUR soil. If your soil doesn't wick well, you will have a problem. If you soil wicks very well, you may also have a problem. With a little adjusting, this is an amazing planter! I put a piece of paper towel / coffee filter in the base of the planter to keep the soil from dropping into the water. Then I poked a hole in the paper towel / coffee filter. I also positioned the cotton rope in the planter, so there would be 3-4" of rope in contact with the soil. I filled it halfway full of soil, made a well in the bottom, stuck the plant in, repositioned the rope, and filled with soil. pressing firmly but gently to stabilize the plant. This was awesome, but it went through water really quickly and kept the soil quite damp, so I made an adjustment - i pulled on the rope so less rope was in the soil. This slowed the amount of water wicked into the planter. Now it is the perfect amount!
