Amazing Grip, Covering, Leveling & Stain Capture

I recently found that PPG opened a store that is convenient to my current home, so based on previous PPG projects, I wanted to try their products again. After hearing very good things about Seal Grip Gripper Primer, plus the advice of the woman at the PPG store, I thought I'd give it a try. It surprised me! The first surprise was the price. I paid for this premium product what one would pay for not-so-good primer, such as Kilz-2. My next surprise was the <50 VOC rating and the LEED and Green Guard ratings. Thank You, PPG for protecting the planet & my body. The viscosity is such that the primer allows for very precise edge cutting against glass, brick, ceiling-wall, etc. That is a welcome feature. It is also such that upside-down brush work does not result in sage or drips. It never wicks up the brush, nor does it creep down to the ferrule when painting inverted. It's quite easy to apply a film with consistent mil thickness. It levels very, very well. The wet-edge is long, so one has time to work without leaving brush lap marks. Oddly, when dry, it has a sheen similar to "sating" or "eggshell". I did some test samples on wood, weathered galvanized, steel angle with light rust, vinyl. All were washed & dried. The Seal Grip adhered very tightly to each, so when painting, don't bump the glass unless your razor scraper is sharp. It grabs tenaciously! On real work, this primer was kind of interesting on resinous areas. Instead of trying to cover them, it somehow captures the resins in the paint film. On spots of gloss black spray enamel on white painted wood, the Seal Grip Gripper Primer made them barely visible in one coat. (That's what primers are supposed to do, not make the spot disappear.) A single coat of PPG Acri-Shield Max semi-gloss exterior covered both the resin and the black spots. Tool cleaning is tougher than other primers. The brushes and containers do clean up, but it's work, reminiscent of using Emulsa Bond. However, that is a good sign! If it can get stuck while wet on china bristles, it'll stick on your surfaces. This primer made the project a one-coat of primer / one-coat of paint task. Should the price remain competitive, this will be my automatic choice from now on.

Nice job covering old color.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this for my wife to use on some old furniture pieces she picked up that were quite dark. She wanted to go with a light paint on them and this really did a good job of sealing the old finish. I would definitely use this again.

Awesome primer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received this primer and tested on a small piece of high grade cabinetry. Loved the flow of the primer and decided to use this product on all the new interior cabinets, as a paint base. I usually use Kilz2 but will now change
