The pro style Redfin we've all been waiting for...

I use Cordell Redfins when fish are feeding on herring but that's a 50-year-old lure design and I always wanted a "pro-style" version. When Berkley introduced the Surge Shad (jointed) I had high hopes and wasn't disappointed. If you buy one lure to catch big bass, striper and wiper, this is it. We have caught hundreds of fish using it this year. They are tough, wake easily and have high quality components.

Surge Shad

Been throwing a Red Fin for years, only trouble with a Red Fin is you might get 2 out of a dozen that work. I have 10 of these Surge Shad and they all work perfectly.

Poor finish coat, bill is subject to break

Paint chips off extremely easy. The action of the lure is a lot like a cotton cordell redfin. The rattle system is a bit duller than a thunderstick. I'll stick with the thunderstick, especially after having the paint chip off half my order. We toss these at night. Poor cast judgement leads to bouncing off rocks close to the bank at some point in the dark. I ordered 7 of these. 3 have broken lips in 2 nights of fishing. Ive since repainted and re finished the other 4. I can toss other lures of this style and not have this complication. We did catch fish. Cant complain there! The wake of this bait is great. It has a wide (roll over) during the wake, a bit wider than a thunderstick. Which I think is great. Retrieves easily, with very minor complications of diving when reeled a bit too fast. Even after repaint and finish. Will I use these again? (Absolutely) After a new finish is applied to the lure and strengthening of the bill. Its great for nighttime striper, walleye and bass. Is it my favorite for this style of fishing? (No) I'd much rather use a bit more durable lure in this style.
