Impressive Historical

I found this take on the behind the scenes of the Civil War interesting. I have never read anything about the Arsenal facilities and the part women played in making cartridges for the soldiers. It was enlightening to see how they put their lives on the line while their menfolk were off fighting for freedom. Add the twist of southern sympathizers who have infiltrated and budding romance and you have the makings of a great read. I love the slower pacing of Ms. Millers books as it gives you time to absorb what is taking place and get to know the characters on several layers. Although I didn't care for Bea and her tactics of using people I was hopeful for redemption. I always tend to see the good in people like Clara but we cannot change them, as only Christ can. I loved the faith portrayed and Clara's relationship with her mother. This is a good solid Historical read that is informative as well as entertaining. This goes on my Judith Miller shelf with my other treasured books by this author. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

Full of history and well-written

“Clara McBride carefully counted ten cartridges before dividing them into a double stack of five.” Opening line of “A Single Spark” by Judith Miller “A Single Spark” by Judith Miller is set in the American civil war at an ammunition factory. I found the back cover gave a little too much a way for me as it takes quite a while before there is an illusion to sabotage. The majority of the book is dedicated to the relationships of the workers at the factory as well as the process of production and it's dangers. It is well written and if you enjoy learning about history through novels, this is one for you. There is a lot of carefully researched detail and Judith brings this to life through the story. For me, it was a little much as I enjoy a bit more of a pace to a story and a little more intrigue. Whilst this one wasn't quite my cup of tea, I have to give it four out of five on the enJOYment as I did find it interesting and had to know how it would resolve!
