Consumed by a Season, (Paperback)

In a society where families with infants, babies and children may not be surrounded by a network of true help and connection, this book is an eye opener. Beautifully written, raw and honest, it brings us into a mother's world of all encompassing love, unrelenting demands and the feelings of self doubt and isolation a baby can create. It made me want to reach out to all moms I know and ask how they are really doing.

I am so grateful to have read this book which unapologetically describes a part of postpartum depression that is not often talked about which is "mommy rage" -  Even more stigmatized than stereotypical postpartum depression, the feeling of being angry at your newborn carries so much shame and guilt that it's hard to even entertain talking about, but Consumed By A Season describes those "middle of the night emotions" so well I found myself wishing I could have copied the entire page to send to my support people when they ask "whats wrong". More so than moms experiencing the transition to motherhood, I hope the people that love them as well as professionals take the opportunity to read the situations that Kellen has so vividly and accurately described. Consumed by a Season is a fairly easy to follow read, for those who are struggling with brain functioning after a newborn.  I also found it was easy to start and stop as having a 5 month old means frequent interruptions. I highly recommend Consumed by a Season especially with anyone going through the transition of parenthood.
