You have to connect it to your TV with supplied cable. Go into TV audio settings and turn TV speakers to off then sound only goes through earphone set. set it to auto and other members can hear it at their level and you can set yours at your level. I was able to turn the Closed Caption off. I can now hear everything clearly and not miss the movie while I tried to keep with closed caption. It also comes with an extra battery that is continuously charging. Much better than TV Ears. It also has a microphone so you can push a button so the sound cuts off and you can hear someone talking to you. 5 Stars!

These are the best TV Ears headphones I've ever bought, offering wireless ease of use for people with hearing loss.
