Pennington Grass Seed and Fertilizer

I planted the seed in three spots. Spot 1 was a clay/sandy soil. It gets full sun 90% of the day. Spot 2 is black dirt and gets 100% sun. Spot 3 was a shady area with dead leaves and rich soil. The seeds in spots 1 & 2 started sprouting on day 5 (yesterday). The seed in spot 3 came up in 3 days. The seed today in spots 1 & 2 are about 1/2 inches tall. The seed in spot 3 is 3 inches tall. Probably the seed in spots 1 & 2 would have come up sooner if I had been able to water them more but this lower Alabama sun dries dirt out quickly. I would buy this product since the fertilizer comes on the seed which helps it get a better start.

Great Grass Seed For Shade & Sun

I obtained this grass seed because last year I had to cut down 2 70ft tall x 50ft wide Mulberry trees in my yard. They had shaded out all the grass growing under them.. leaving me with two huge patches of bare ground. This package of seeds contains 3 different kinds of grass seed. 1. Penn ARG-1 Annual Ryegrass 2. Shinning Star Perennial Ryegrass 3. Bermuda (Unhulled). Along with fertilizer. You break-up the ground using a stiff pronged garden rake or shovel. Broad cast your seed & fertilizer... then gently rake-in and cover your seed with 1/4" of soil. Then water your seed in with a sprinkler. Keep your soil damp for several weeks or so... giving the seed a chance to sprout and establish roots. If necessary.. water it several times a day...don't let it dry out.. especially in hot/ windy weather. You want your seed covered and watered in well or else the birds will eat it. Once established and over 3" tall.. you can cut back to watering once a day with a good soaking. Personally, I'd give it about a month to get going well. If you have smaller bare spots due to shade or having sprayed weeds.. or due to pet urine.. just broadcast some of the seed into the dead grass...rake it in.. and water generously. Keep the spot damp until the seed sprouts and is growing well. This Ryegrass has a nice green color and blends well with the Bermuda. I highly recommend this grass seed.

Using in sun and shady areas, awaiting the results

This is the first time I've used a combination seed and fertilizer product on my yard. We've had a rough year with the lawn, and there are some spots needing help in the sun and the shade. I applied as directed. First, I mowed the grass on the lowest mower setting. I then removed debris like sticks and stones. Then I raked the area to loosen the soil and smooth the top area. Then I applied the Pennington Ultimate Plus Sun & Shade Grass Seed & Fertilizer. After this, the most important steps in my opinion are keeping the area moist and watered. In South Texas in June, that is a challenge. I have watered the areas three times a day to make sure they do stay moist and watered. Because I got in June 2nd and applied it June 5th, I cannot testify to how quickly the grass grows and covers the bald spot in my lawn; however, I will report back and update when the grass starts growing. It was very easy to apply and the instructions were very easy to follow.
