Doesn't lay flat

There were no instructions, but we lined up all of the seams (using the "back" label as a guide), tied where indicated, and it looked awful. The middle did not settle into the middle of the futon at all. It popped right back up when we tried to tuck it down in the fold, even if untied. It's going back. It's too bad, because we liked the pattern a lot.
