Wilkinson Sword Protector 3 Shaving Razor System, 1 handle w/ 1 blade (Comparable to Schick Protector)

I gave this razor a go because the blades for the Quattro I usually use have been out of stock. I was a bit cautious with this one because I had tried one when they first came out (1992 I think) with only 2-blades - and found that I got quite a few nicks - so I stuck with my Profile FX. I was also interested to give it a go as I'd recently read it was designed by Kenneth Grange - who perhaps is most famous for designing the parking meter. Anyway- all I can say is I'm glad of the circumstances that brought me to give this a 2nd go - as it really is an excellent razor. Firstly, its unconventional shape is really ergonomic. You hold it between thumb and forefinger just below the 'Y' of its neck and its bulbous end fits nicely in the palm of your hand - but the flattened inner surface (facing away from your hand) enables your Little and Ring fingers to rest comfortably on it - providing you with excellent control. The Outer part of the handle is a blued metal - whereas the inner is a black rubberised material which is very grippy. The handle feels relatively 'weighty' which I really like/ I can only assume that the 1992 based I'd got were deficient - as with this new ones I have had no issue with any nicks at all. Comparing it with the Quattro, I would say the blades (maybe) don't glide across your face as well - but they are still very good; and I find it seems to be slightly noisier - but I think that's due to the 3-d swivel head that the Quattro doesn't have - and it really isn't an issue - but merely an observation. However, I would say that the Protector does (marginally) give a closer shave (the Quattro is still excellent - its just that this is better) which I put down to the blade head being slimmer and following the contours of your face better. Going forward I think I'm likely to chose the Protector over the Quattro as my daily razor. My only concern is that Wilkinson my be trying to phase it out - as they haven't seemed to put in in their new-style packaging yet but is still in a blister pack. If they do then it would be a great shame - as this really is a fantastic razor - and 1 I think they should promote a lot more.
