I bought these last month and had them mounted on my diesel Excursion last week before a 1000+ mile trip towing a 5x8 enclosed trailer with ~2500 lbs of weight. I won't lie - the first 300+ miles were NOT fun. These tires are 180 degrees different from the Michelins I had for the last 4.5 years. These didn't feel right, with steering and overall handling much worse than the previous tires. I had to stiffen the adjustable shocks to be able to drive the rig with any confidence at all. I tow a lot and towed probably 15-20k miles with the previous tires and I had never experienced anything like the way these felt. But they got immeasurably better after that first heat-cycle. The steering and handling issues went away and they felt more normal. But nowhere close to the Michelins in feel overall. The sidewalls give the impression of being made of wet noodles compared to both sets of previous tires, even at 80 PSI. But around town with 74-ish PSI and softer shocks, they are very comfortable. So the jury is still out on these, but I'll probably grow more accustomed to the feel over the next few months.
Excellent value for the money
Sumitomo makes quality tires and in the top 5 manufacturers in the world, although they are as popular in the US as other brands. I've put about 1,000 miles on these and no issues. They are installed on an older ford ranger that only sees highway driving and I drive conservatively. They ride well, good traction on wet pavement, and quiet. Haven't had any snow yet so I cannot comment on snow/ice performance. Only complaint is that I have lost about one-half (0.4-0.5) MPG, very surprising considering I switched from worn out all terrains to this highway tire. The tires had fresh date codes, they were only 13 weeks old from date of manufacture. Also they are manufactured in Japan. Check the Walmart site daily as they will randomly discount tires and you can get best price. I caught these on sale for $88 each (size 255/70/15). They are not the nicest tire I've ever purchased, but overall an excellent value for the money. I ordered online and the tires arrived quickly and no issues. They even held them for 2 weeks until I had time to get in to have them installed at walmart auto center. I was somewhat concerned about letting them work on my vehicle - but I received courteous service, completed less than 2 hours, everything done correctly, lug nuts torqued correctly, and all tires with equal and correct air pressure. I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at the auto center.
