We have this on a box spring on my daughter's bed. She doesn't seem to mind, but becauae the mattress is so soft and thin, you can feel the slats in the box spring underneath it. That said, this is marketed as a bunk bed mattress, and I think if you had a piece of plywood or a solid support rather than slats/bars, it would be perfect. I still think it's a good value.
