Performance are designed to be used in uprated engine systems to increase the amount thus improving performance.The breather is usually provided with and to oil mist and vapour from fouling the filter. Intake manifold vacuum is applied to the crankcase via the PCV, drawing into the crankcase via the breather.
The purpose of a breather filter is to let clean be drawn through the block. Without a speed density (read: aftermarket ECU) you MUST let the crank draw the MAF or, otherwise you are letting unmetered into your engine which will cause it to run lean.
