i wanted to make a mohawk with my afro. these did do the trick, however... they arent made very well. the teeth gets bent out of shape fairly easy and my hair always get tangled when trying to take it out. But if you need this for a temporary updo, i guess it's worth it. but dont expect them to last a long time.
