LEGO Technic Monster Jam Max-D 42119 Model Kit for Kids Who Love Monster Trucks (230 Pieces)

My 6 year old grandson loved this. It was a gift for Kindergarten promotion.

LEGO Technic Monster Jam Max-Destruction (Max-D). 230 Pieces. Technic sets are mostly peg/hole and girder affairs, not snap together blocks, so, assembling one is a different, and more complicated, experience than regular LEGO bricks. It's not as quick or user-friendly as the standard LEGO building system; just be aware of that if you've never tried Technic before. In this case, you build up the vehicle framework, around the pullback motor, and add chassis plates on top of that. There was one bag of larger components and two smaller ones holding all of the little stuff (mostly pegs, posts, and spacers), and the motor was just loose inside the box. Speaking of which, that works really well--pull Max-D back, on a hard, flat surface, let him go, and watch him tear through anything in his path (the cat wasn't impressed). If you don't care for monster trucks, you can get PDF instructions on LEGO's website for a 4-wheeler alternate build too. The only things I don't like about D-Max are that the pivoting flag hangs too low and the spikes rotate too freely in their sockets, rather than staying securely pointing in one direction. A mini figure driver would have been nice, but, Technic sets usually don't include any of those. Fully assembled, this is a pretty large and impressive machine, solid and durable too, well worth the asking price (I paid 16, MSRP is 20). The pullback motor wasn't necessary, but, it adds some fun play value. I give it 4.7/5.0 car-crushing tires.
