Key item features

Disney's latest futuristic feature Meet The Robinsons promises to be the computer animated smash of the season but the sleeper hit just might be its soundtrack which includes some renditions of future-pop as well as a gem from the past by some of music's brightest stars.

The Robinsons story features the ever-popular theme of time travel as orphan Lewis visits the future where he meets the Robinson family and the inevitable baddie, Bowler Hat Guy. The big kahuna behind the film's audio vision is soundtrack giant Danny Elfman. Best known for his work on the Batman, Beetlejuice and Simpsons scores, Elfman is the tireless and award-winning worker bee of soundtrack projects, his style veering from straight-ahead follow the action filmic score as on "The Science Fair," to straight-up quirky, as on "Pop Quiz and The Time Machine."

Another iconoclastic music man, Rufus Wainwright, is best known for his dramatic imitations of Judy Garland songs and his own melancholy love songs, but in his new guise as Disney soundtrack star, he opens the set with the luscious and layered "Another Believer." He also lends his pipes to the lilting "The Motion Waltz (Emotional Commotion)," a soul-filled, well, waltz!

And while we're on inspirational rock and soul vocalizing, you can't beat former Matchbox 20 star Rob Thomas for a little of that big rock sound he's come to represent on "Little Wonders." "The Future Has Arrived" is foreseen by the All-American Rejects, everybody's favorite all-American pop-punk all-stars. Jamie Callum adds a little sophisticated smooth lounge crooning to the proceedings with his Sinatra/Connick-styled vocalizing on the cocktail jazz "Give Me The Simple Life," and "Where Is Your Heart At?"

That everlovin' comedic duo of the pop sphere, They Might Be Giants, weighs in with the futuristic work song. "There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow." Borrowed from Disney's past, the anthem was originally recorded in 1963. And what would a contemporary soundtrack be without a little new wave? "Kids Of The Future" is an energetic remake of Kim Wilde's "Kids Of America" cut by the Jonas Brothers.

Whether you loved the movie or haven't seen it yet, fans of Elfman's evocative film music, Disney past and Disney future should waste not another minute deciding: It's time to Meet The Robinsons, soundtrack, that is.

GREAT music

I loved this. If you love the movie, you will absolutly adore this soundtrack. Danny Elfman was superb all over, and all the favorite songs from the movie are on here, plus a few not heard in the movie, but made for it. This is by far the greatest CD I have purchased in a long time.
