Key item features

Stylistically, Swamp Pop owes much to New Orleans R&B, being readily identifiable by it's piano triplets, plaintive melodies (often in 6/8 waltz time), Bluesy guitar licks, rolling bass and a mournful horn section, all underpinned by a strong Rhythm & Blues backbeat. Lyrically, the songs are often anguished tales of lost loves, failed romances, broken hearts and stark loneliness It should be stressed that not all Swamp Pop songs are ballads - but a hell of a lot are!. As to what was the first Swamp Pop record, this has been the subject of some debate over the years. It would seem to boil down to a straight fight between Bobby Charles' 'On Bended Knee', Earl King's 'Those Lonely, Lonely Nights', and Roy 'Boogie Boy' Perkins' 'You're on My Mind', all of which were recorded at around the same time, during 1955. In the final analysis, it's your choice all three titles are included plus so much more.
