Replacement cylinder head gasket for Yamaha WaveRunner FX 1000 FX 140 1000 and FX Cruiser 1000 personal watercraft equipped with the MR-1 4-stroke engine. This 998cc DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine features a 74mm bore and 58mm stroke producing 140 horsepower with 20-valve DOHC heads and electronic fuel injection. The cylinder head gasket is the most critical seal in the engine creating the combustion chamber seal between the cylinder block and the cylinder head. A failed head gasket causes compression loss coolant mixing with the oil and overheating. On marine 4-stroke engines head gasket failure can also allow water to enter the combustion chamber causing hydro lock and severe engine damage. Replace the head gasket whenever the cylinder head is removed and use a torque wrench to tighten head bolts in the correct sequence and to factory specification.
