First Book to Go to on Israel

This book is the best one to read to learn about Israel if you want the following: easy to follow, complete but yet brief, fair and balanced, fact filled. There is a lot of information here in a paperback book that can be read in a weekend. There is an audiobook available too if you want to hear how names and places are pronounced. Daniel Gordis is a man I've been aware of for about 25 years and he's written many books on Israel, and he's trustworthy. He cares a lot and he tells the facts. It's a book every single person should read first when you're curious about Israel and Israelis.

pages out of order

The pages are out of order. The book starts at page 229, goes to 270, then back to the Table of Contents and Chapter 1. Those pages are then missing where they should be. I don't know if all the books are that way or if I just happened to get a misprint. The book looks good other than that.
