Toca's Origins Series Djembes offer a superb balance of professional sound, workmanship, features and affordability. The process of creating an Origins djembe starts by sourcing environmentally-friendly, plantation-grown mahogany logs and then carefully selecting high-grade whole sections. Once selected, each piece is hand-turned on a lathe to create a shell that is very traditional in shape and uniform in thickness. Each bowl interior is left grooved and rough-surfaced to eliminate unpleasant overtones while retaining a rich timbre. The exterior of the shell is then sculpted by hand into a variety of ornamental designs and finished with multiple coats of protective finish. Finally, a hand-selected, goatskin head is fitted to the drum using low-stretch, high tensile braided (HTB) nylon. A step up from the Toca Street Series djembes.
